Glory Days
Surrounded by glowing
aspens and a rushing river this mill can easily be called one
of the most beautiful sites in Colorado. The road leading to
the mill and semi-ghost town is treacherous with a narrow road,
steep cliffs and really can only be driven by an experienced
driver in a 4x4 vehicle during the summer and fall months. The
"mill" was built in 1893 and is actually a power generating
station for an air compressor that was housed within. The compressor
ran the drills used for ore processing for the nearby mines.
I enjoy learning about and exploring areas like this; there
is such rich mining history in Colorado. I spent a little over
a month exploring Colorado in the mid/late fall and there was
never a day when I was bored or without something beautiful
to take pictures of.
